Outage

June 24, 2008

The DC hub (Node 0) was out from around 12 to 4 PM due to power outage. We’ll be purchasing a UPS soon to prepare for this sort of thing.

The First of Many File Transfers

June 24, 2008

There it is. The first file transfer between N and myself on Node 0. Don’t mind the slow tranfer rate, my ISP caps p2p transfers :P

Direct Connect Should Be Working Now

June 17, 2008

After finally buying a new router and updating its firmware, the Direct Connect server should now be accessible publicly. There are no restrictions to connected users as of yet, but we will continue to tweak settings as we go along :)

You can find the settings on the main page.

Flashing the Silicon Image BIOS

May 3, 2008

We had to use a floppy disk. With windows 98 startup. Yes, the year is 2008…

We created an image of the floppy we used. We’ll also make a bootable CD image. Both will be made publicly available for free to distribute.  We’ll post the links to these images here once ready.

Pending…

April 26, 2008

We still can’t decide on a network protocol. DC++ (Direct Connect) Seems to be the best way, theoretically speaking, but the client/server software is lacking for Linux CLI daemons. If you know of any good CLI server/hub please let us know.

Fixed Typos

April 8, 2008

K pointed out typos in Maintenance and DynDNS pages. They’ve been fixed.

Protocols

April 5, 2008

Here’s a list of network protocols that we’ll be looking at. The selection will obviously require support on all major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

  1. Bittorrent (Private Tracker + Frontend)
It requires generating .torrent files which is very cumbersome. Can be capped by ISPs.
  2. DC++ (Private Hub)
    MD5 checksums issues?
  3. WASTE
    Pending evaluation
  4. eDonkey/eMule
    Can be capped by ISP.
  5. Gnutella/Gnutella2
    Can be capped by ISP.
  6. IRC
    Requires bots/scripts. No encryption?
  7. GNUnet
    Pending evaluation.
  8. FTP/SFTP (Private user/pass)
Poor security for FTP. Too risky for SFTP? No Fair Queue System
Please use the discussions page if you have more suggestions.
